This graphic, on the monolithicity of the Supreme Court, took approximately 4 million hours of research but was massively enjoyable, thanks to all the fun facts that emerged. Such as: the court’s building has a fifth-floor basketball court, known as “the highest court in the land.” And: once these guys get the job, it is basically only Death’s cold scythe that makes them give it up.
For example, Harlan Fiske Stone keeled over on the bench, while dissenting in Girouard v. United States. He is the only justice to have died this way. (In court, not dissenting in Girouard v. United States.)
I don’t think it’s on Newsweek.com, so please buy a copy of this week’s magazine, the one with the ridiculously good Eric Holder profile on the cover.
